Howdy Ags!

I am Ryan Rieger, a Political Science major from Houston, Texas and most importantly the proudest member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie class of 2009! I want to thank you for your interest and support in making me the Student Body President for the 2008-2009 school year. I have become who I am today because of my friends and my experiences at Texas A&M. This is the reason that giving back to the school that I love so much and serving my fellow students are both very strong passions of mine. I have really enjoyed serving in the Student Senate during the past two years and representing the College of Liberal Arts. During this time I have worked very well with members of administration and have learned how to make great ideas come to life. I will continue to put my heart into this university and look forward to serving you next year. I urge you to read my platform and look around my website to learn more about my goals and ways that you can help. Please feel free to send me any questions or comments that you have.

Thanks and gig’em!

Issue Spotlight: Athletics

The Athletics Department has worked hard with students to create a new and fair process for students that purchase an all sports pass. I support this process and the ticketless approach that the Athletics Departments is taking.

Class of 2009 Fundraiser

This afternoon the newly elected Yell Leaders and the Student Body President candidates were invited to help raise money for the Class of 2009. The event include a dunking booth at the entrance of the tennis matches. This was incredibly fun! The Yell Leaders and myself had a great time taking turns getting dunked in the booth. Students paid $1 to have the chance to throw 3 tennis balls at a target and dunk us in large tub of water. I was honored to receive the invitation and I am fortunate that I was able to help my class, support the tennis players, and support our woman’s lacrosse team.

City Council and Coffee with Mayor White

Yesterday a group of students went to the College Station City Council to discuss the Housing Ordinance.  This event was a huge success and we were able to voice our opinions to the community.  The City Council decided to hold off on the ordinance and look at alternatives.  Both the residents and students want to work together to tackle this issue and make sure that our outstanding relationship.
Today two Student Senators and myself had coffee with several residents and the Mayor of College Station.  We were able to discuss our differences and ideas concerning community relations.  I talked to them about the steps that Student Government has taken to help solve these problems.  Mayor White and members of the City Council discussed how they can better enforce current policies and educational programs that will create informed citizens.
We made a difference in attending these meetings.  We showed members of the community that we do care and want to find solutions to our problems.  I look forward to continuing our great relationship between the students of Texas A&M University and College Station residents.

12 Hours at Sully

Howdy!  On Thursday the 20th, I was outside in the Academic Plaza standing near Sully for 12 hours.  This event followed the SBP forum that was held in the Flag Room of the MSC.  I wanted to make myself available for students to come meet me and ask me questions about my platform.  This was a huge success and I was able to meet with many students who did not understand what student government can do for them.  I was able to answer questions ranging from my goals for next year, my experience as a senator, why I want to run for Student Body President, and why I am the most qualified candidate.  This was a representation of the types of forums that I want to hold when I am elected as Student Body President.  I want to make myself available to all students and let them be able to voice their concerns to me in person.  I will make sure that every student has several avenues to access information and get thier opinion to the Texas A&M Administration.  If you were unable to come Thursday, I will answer all additional questions by email () or via facebook message.  I look forward to hearing from you all!  Thanks and Gig ‘em!
